Hundreds enjoy this Jazz Series  held on the 3rd Thursdays of May through September. Hosted by the Fort Worth Library, and co-sponsored by The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation, this event offers the jazz styling of renowned, award winning, local and internationally touring musicians. Jazz is held at the Fort Worth Central Library and admission and parking for the event are free of charge.

May 17: The Musings of Miles Davis
Presented by: The Thaddeus Ford Band

Thaddeus Ford Band explores the music of Miles Davis’s electric period.  Along with Afro-Caribbean, New Orleans and atmospheric post rock music, Miles’s music from the 70’s has had a huge impact on Ford’s sonic sensibilities as a composer.

June 21: Tribute to the Music of Wayne Shorter
Presented by: The Duane Durrett Quartet

Join the Duane Durrett Quartet for an evening with the music of Wayne Shorter. In addition to being one of the great saxophonists, Shorter is one of the great contemporary composers of modern American Music. After stints with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet, he co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report.

July 19: Literary Jazz
Presented by: Audra Scott and Music Mentors of Texas

Led by its co-founder, versatile soprano and Fort Worth native Audra Scott, Music Mentors of Texas performs an array of standards ranging from the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald to American Soprano, Jessye Norman. A combination of loved familiar jazz tunes and a new, “outside the box” take on American spirituals, the music will make you move your feet and feed your soul.  Music Mentors of Texas is an organization of professional musicians and music educators dedicated to giving free music lessons to underprivileged youth in Fort Worth/Tarrant County.

The common role of soundtrack music is to enhance and augment visual aspects of a particular scene or storyline.  But in some cases, the music stands alone and creates its own “Feature Presentation”.  Cinema and Jazz find Common Ground.

September 20: Fred Hersch Trio

The Grammy-nominated Fred Hersch Trio has been called “one of the major ensembles of our time” by The Wall Street Journal. Joining Fred in the fifth edition of his trio are John Hebert on bass and Eric McPherson on drums. The trio have toured extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia, appearing at major venues and festivals to wide acclaim.
