LaunchPad supports area high school students by providing free professional assistance and counseling on the college application process. This includes technical help with writing college essays and scholarship applications, as well as guidance on college readiness and selection.
Led by FWPLF’s Youth Program Coordinator, Dr. Paula Tyler, LaunchPad offers individual one-on-one sessions at the Fort Worth Central Library and branch locations, in addition to small group sessions and presentations at Fort Worth high schools. In the 2019–20 school year, LaunchPad supported over 200 juniors and seniors through individual advising sessions and an additional 75 students through small group sessions and presentations at Fort Worth high schools. All seniors who participated in one-on-one sessions received college acceptances, ranging from Yale University to Tarrant County College, and earned more than $3.5 million in scholarship opportunities.
“When donors give to the Foundation, they are giving to my future, the future of kids like me, and the future of people. A year ago, if you had told me I’d be going to Yale I wouldn’t have believed it. Your money is going somewhere that makes a difference. I’d love to be a donor someday.” Daisy Sanchez, LaunchPad participant and Questbridge Scholar, attending Yale in 2020
