Helping Students Reach Higher: 2020-2021 School Year Update
This school year over 90 local high school seniors participated in our LaunchPad College Application Program, with acceptances to over forty universities across the country from Yale to Johns Hopkins, Rice to UT, A&M, Baylor, and Trinity. Generous scholarships included several California universities, UT and A & M Engineering, Tulane, the University of Washington, OU, DePauw, Indiana, as well as USC, Belmont, Miami, and TCU–among many others. Twenty current juniors have begun LaunchPad planning for this coming fall’s application season, with more to come.
LaunchPad also worked with two college students who have been accepted to medical school, a TCU graduate who will be enrolling in the NYU graduate business program, and one in graduate humanities at the University of Chicago–all students who first worked with LaunchPad as high school seniors applying to undergraduate studies.
A huge thanks to Dr. Paula Tyler for leading this effort. We are grateful to our supporters for believing not only in our mission but also in the future of our community!
This program would not be possible without YOUR support.
See how LaunchPad helped Claire reach higher!
LaunchPad supports area high school students by providing free professional assistance and counseling on the college application process. This includes technical help with writing college essays and scholarship applications, as well as guidance on college readiness and selection.
Led by FWPLF’s Program Director, Dr. Paula Tyler, LaunchPad offers individual one-on-one sessions at the Fort Worth Central Library and branch locations, in addition to small group sessions and presentations at Fort Worth high schools. In the 2019–20 school year, LaunchPad supported over 200 juniors and seniors through individual advising sessions and an additional 75 students through small group sessions and presentations at Fort Worth high schools. All seniors who participated in one-on-one sessions received college acceptances, ranging from Yale University to Tarrant County College, and earned more than $3.5 million in scholarship opportunities.
“When donors give to the Foundation, they are giving to my future, the future of kids like me, and the future of people. A year ago, if you had told me I’d be going to Yale I wouldn’t have believed it. Your money is going somewhere that makes a difference. I’d love to be a donor someday.” Daisy Sanchez, LaunchPad participant and Questbridge Scholar, attending Yale in 2020
